4 weeks ago i moved away from home and started my voyage as a college student. like many, i chose to go in blind thinking it would be a great experience. (wrong. dead wrong. wtf was i thinking!?!) to make a long story short, i have an international student as a roommate - straight from shanghai. there’s a pretty thick accent and his apprehension of the english language is compatible to a six year olds. within these 4 weeks i already have a plethora of stories, but for starters and tonight’s post i’ll begin with the basic things that causes him to grind my gears. for one, i don’t think i’ve gotten more than 8 hours of sleep in one night here. i swear i’m living with a 40 year old man. my roommate tends to go to bed later than me, which isn’t an issue, but he also wakes up way earlier than me. it tends to be anytime from 8:30-9 am. his morning ritual includes brewing tea, constantly opening and closing the door for an early smoke, and trips back and forth to the bathroom wearing flip flops that make obnoxious noises. i’m the one with the 10:20 classes the majority of the week while his all begin past 12. he proceeds to finish all his activities until 9:30, which is when my alarm is set so that i can shower and get ready for my class. but guess who’s already in there? yep, roommate. not only do i need to use that time to get ready before class but one of my suitemates as well. i shouldn’t have to confront him because it’s a) common courtesy and b) common sense but i still continue to say something and he obviously doesn’t understand. well, i’m done being ungrateful for the night. i shouldn’t complain when i’m privileged with this opportunity of education but hey, i’m only human.
